My name is Stephen Barrett.  For the last 3 years I have been specialising in portrait photography. This generally means baby and child photos but often weddings and some more formal studio portraiture as well. Really, it is always a skill that is more about communicating with a client and managing the light than operating a camera.

I am incredibly fortunate to be in this job. It is such a special responsibility to be recording the images of a client’s lifetime. The newborn baby or the Wedding a Bride has waited for her whole life. I regard this as a huge privilege and not one to be taken lightly.

I believe as the photographer it is my job to manage difficult situations, such as rain at a wedding or a baby that cries, with grace and patience. One of my most beautiful weddings was a rainy day in a rose garden. The soft light was very beautiful and because of my experience, I was able to get bright and well saturated photos. Some children aren't ready for photos, but they deserve respect. I like to sit down with them, chat with mum and just give them time to get used to the situation.

Photography is in many ways a social skill. You can be sure that I will look after you and keep your best interests at heart.
